Data Deletion & Retention

Last updated: June 25, 2026

You can request a copy of your data or the deletion of your account at any time by emailing support@capsulated.app. We handle these requests personally. Because Capsulated is a shared legacy product, we remove what is yours alone and take care to preserve shared memories while removing your identity from them. This page explains how we handle your request.

Download your data

You can request a copy of the personal data in your Capsulated account at any time. This includes your profile details, the content you created in your own vault (photos, stories, voice recordings, letters, time capsules), your life story and biography, your family-tree card information, your memberships, and a summary of your account and billing history. We do not include full payment-card numbers.

To request your data, email support@capsulated.app from the email address on your account. We will provide your data in a machine-readable format along with your media files, delivered through a secure, time-limited download link.

Delete your account

You can ask us to delete your account and personal data at any time. To request deletion, email support@capsulated.app from the email address on your account. We will confirm your request before anything is removed.

After we confirm your request, we honor a 30-day grace period before permanently removing your data. During this time you can cancel the deletion by contacting us. Once the grace period passes, we permanently remove your personal data as described below. This window protects you against accidental or unwanted deletion.

What deletion removes — and what stays

Capsulated is a shared legacy product. Some of your content is woven into other people's vaults, family trees, and memories. When we process your deletion, we remove what is yours alone, and we preserve shared content while removing your identity from it.

Permanently deleted: your profile and personal details, the content in your own vault, your life story and biography, your letters, your account record, and any media files you own. Time capsules and scheduled deliveries you created are cancelled when you delete your own account while living.

Preserved, with your identity removed: content you contributed to other people's vaults remains part of their legacy, and we replace your name with a general label such as "a family member." On a shared family tree, we keep your place in the structure so your relatives' lineage stays intact, while removing your personal details.

Memorial profiles are not deleted. A memorial honoring someone who has passed belongs to that person's memory and to the relatives who share it, so it is not removed when you delete your own account. Scheduled deliveries set by a person who has passed away are honored according to their wishes and cannot be cancelled by others.

What we keep, and for how long

After deletion, we retain a minimal set of records where the law requires it or where we have a legitimate need — for example, transaction and tax records, and records needed to prevent fraud or meet a legal obligation. These records are kept only for as long as required and are then permanently removed.

Delivered posthumous content that has already been released to its recipients persists in their accounts and is not deleted by your request, as it now forms part of their legacy.

Your rights

If you are in Canada, you have rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, including the right to delete and the right to access your personal information. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

For full detail on how we handle your information, see our Privacy Policy.
